Microsoft to eliminate 10,000 positions but why?

After the extraordinary highs of the early epidemic period, when Wall Street applauded the huge gains of Internet, software, and communications companies, the tech behemoth is the latest company to lay off employees amid economic uncertainties. As concerns about a recession grow, a number of tech companies, including Amazon, Meta, and Salesforce, have announced layoffs.
Less than 5% of the Microsoft workforce has been laid off. The company stated that some of the affected employees will be informed as early as Wednesday.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella wrote a memo to staff that was posted on the business' blog, saying, "These are the kinds of difficult decisions we have made throughout our 47-year history to remain a consequential company in this industry that is unforgiving to anyone who doesn't adapt to platform shifts."
